The most common examination technique is called Palpation. The Chiropractic Doctor carefully feels or "palpates" the entire spinal region to detect nerve interference. Other instruments or methods may be used to verify the findings. All of the examination techniques utilized by the Chiropractor are safe, painless and non-invasive.
After testing and diagnosis, you will receive a report of the Doctor's findings during a Dr. Report, where you will also learn more about Chiropractic. (Financial arrangements will also be discussed on your second visit.) You will be told if there is any nerve interference and its severity. The Doctor will also show you your x-rays and explain exactly what you are looking at. Your Doctor will discuss the findings with you and outline a course of care needed to correct the nerve interference. This course of care may include spinal adjustments, beneficial exercises, and changes to your lifestyle to help you reach your full health potential. Frequent adjustments may be required at the beginning of your treatment; however, the number of adjustments and office visits will decrease as your condition improves and you will then be placed on wellness care. At first, it will take continued adjustments to be certain that the vertebrae have returned to their proper position and your muscles and ligaments can continue to hold them firmly in place. Once you spinal integrity is stable, your Chiropractic Doctor will perform periodic spinal checks to make sure your spine remains free of nerve interference.
During Corrective Care the Chiropractor's objective is to reduce stress damage to the spine and nervous system. The healing of a condition that has evolved over months, and sometimes years, will take some time to heal. When the spine is nearly or completely aligned it willneed to be monitored as it becomes stronger. Evidence is required to show that the adjustments hold for longer periods of time before proceeding to wellness care. Complete healing cannot take place unless the spine is checked regularly to be sure that there isn't a re-occurrence of nerve interference.
The Wellness Care the next phase of care after corrective care is completed. At this time, your spine is holding the adjustments and stable. By scheduling periodic check-ups, any further nerve interference can be detected and corrected early.
